One of the more creative aspects of buying a new home or remodeling an old one is choosing the flooring material and design that will be installed in the rooms. There are so many types of flooring materials to choose from that it can be bewildering and sometimes overwhelming. Here are the types of flooring a homeowner can consider:
Hardwood Flooring
Hardwood flooring is derived mostly from deciduous trees. Some of the more popular hardwood flooring choices amongst Metro Atl. Floors’ Atlanta customers include maple, birch, walnut and teak. All of these types of hardwood flooring resist swelling and warping while providing an elegance to any room in the home. Hardwood floors are popular in the Atlanta area because they provide a classic design and are easy to maintain and keep looking great for a long time.
Laminates
Another popular flooring option is laminates. With laminate flooring there are several layers of materials that are bonded together, which makes them especially strong. Laminate flooring can be a less expensive flooring option because it is not made from actual wood or stone. Yet, modern examples of laminate look so much like wood or stone that it takes a close inspection to tell them apart. Laminate flooring is also easier to install than wood and much easier to install than stone.
Natural Stone
Natural stone is an excellent choice for both its beauty and strength. Durability is not an issue because the stone that is installed has already been around for millions of years and it is probably safe to assume that it will last for millions more. But stone does have its drawbacks. Stone is heavy and even before it’s installed a homeowner needs to make sure that his or her floor can support the weight. Natural stone can be a more expensive option, but it is also probably the best looking and most aesthetic. With the possible exception of slate, stone floors need to be sealed to protect them against staining.
Tile
Tile can be made out of just about anything and is among the most versatile flooring option. Ceramic tile can be glazed or unglazed, can come as mosaic tiles with paper or mesh backs and can be pregrouted. In addition tile also comes in a large variety of designs that give added individuality to an installation.
Carpet
Carpet comes in many types of fibers. Wool carpet sets the standard for even synthetic carpets like those made of acrylic, polyester, nylon or olefin. Different carpeting options come with a wide range of prices. Recycled and eco-friendly flooring choices are readily available in the market and are popular with Metro’s Atlanta customers.
Stairs
A staircase can include a range of materials including hardwood, carpet, and tile. All options have appealing design choices, but natural wood floors are typically what Metro’s customers go with. Balusters and stair railing also provide a variety of design choices and help to give each staircase its own character.
